In the film, Bobby Deol, then only 8 years old, played the role of a younger version of Dharam, the titular character played by his father, Dharmendra. Bobby Deol started his career in Bollywood as a lead with the film Barsaat, which was released in 1995. He shared the screen space with Twinkle Khanna, who was also making her debut. It is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Dharmendra, under the banner of Vijayta Films. The cast also includes names like Raj Babbar, Mukesh Khanna and Danny Denzongpa. Bobby Deol became a recipient of the Best Debut at the Filmfare Award.
