Tipra Motha supports Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, says ‘party wants greater role in Tripura cabinet’
Just days after Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma expressed disappointment over the portfolios allocated to him, his party Tipra Motha has supported his views.
A highly placed source in the Tipra Motha on Thursday told indianexpress.com that the tribal party wanted to have a larger role in the state government. It added that the party was eyeing a cabinet berth for its MLA Brishaketu Debbarma, who is a minister of state at present.
On the sidelines of a public briefing on Tuesday, Animesh Debbarma, who was inducted into the state cabinet in March after Motha joined the BJP-led government in the state, said that he wanted departments through which he could work for tribal people as well as people in far-flung areas. Before becoming a minister in the Manik Saha government, Animesh Debbarma was the Opposition leader in the Assembly.
Apart from the Forest department, Animesh Debbarma currently holds Science and Technology, Environment, Printing and Stationary departments.
“I am not happy with the departments. The Forest department is okay though… I met the CM a few days ago and asked him to allocate me some good departments so that I could work for rural people,” Debbarma told the reporters on Tuesday.
He added that he would soon go to Delhi and take up the issue with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Chief Minister’s Office is yet to react to the allocation controversy.
