New Call of Duty Black Ops 6 teaser trailer is released: Mount Rushmore is vandalised in spray-paint reading 'The Truth Lies' while a news segment about defaced monuments plays

Activision has dropped the first teaser for this year's new Call of Duty game with a video of Mount Rushmore being spray-painted with the words 'THE TRUTH LIES'.

A mysterious new website, thetruthlies.com, appeared yesterday with an old-school box TV and the tagline 'Open your eyes. The truth lies'.

This first marketing push for the game - expected to be from its Black Ops series and called either Black Ops 6 or Black Ops Gulf War - comes weeks before it is expected to be officially unveiled at the Xbox Showcase event on June 9.

Thetruthlies.com also hosts a fictional news channel flicking through pictures of other vandalised monuments across the globe.

The first of six channels plays a clip of a group venturing into a 'federally closed area' under the cover of darkness before scaling Mount Rushmore, fastening sheets over the four engraved presidents' eyes and retreating to reveal those sheets bare the words 'THE TRUTH LIES' and a Cerberus logo.

Other channels are being populated as time goes by. At time of writing, channels three, four and five just bring out the TV static picture and noise which will be so recognisable to many gamers of a certain vintage.

Channel two features two more unidentifiable vandals sticking posters of the defaced American monument to walls before driving away.

The last channel in the sequence is a fictional news channel with the slogan 'on the right side of truth'.

The headline reads: 'Monuments worldwide defaced.'

The clip flicks through shots of the Bank of England in London, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the Statue of Liberty in Paris and the Washington Monument and US Supreme Court in Washington DC, all of which have been vandalised with similar messages in the local language and branded with the same Cerberus icon.

With the website going live with just the first channel showing any life yesterday, expect further clips to be unveiled in the coming days.

More details are expected to be released in June at the Xbox Showcase event, for which the same Cerberus logo seen in the recent teasers has been used in promotion.

The June 9 showcase, billed as 'Xbox Games Showcase followed by [REDACTED] Direct',  offers 'a first look at new games from Xbox Game Studios, leading creators and partners from around the globe'.

Most assumptions are that whatever has been redacted from the announcement is related to the upcoming Call of Duty title. It is also expected that Microsoft will announce the game will come for free with an Xbox Game Pass.

With Treyarch as lead developers for the first time since Black Ops: Cold War in 2020, Black Ops 6 is expected to be released this autumn.

Very few reports have emerged regarding the actual gameplay, which does not feature in any of the teasers so far, for Black Ops 6, but one suggests the upcoming launch will feature open-world elements never seen before in a Call of Duty title.

The campaign will reportedly be 'focused on the CIA'  during the early 1990s war where the US led an international coalition against Iraq in the Middle East.

This will follow on smoothly from Black Ops: Cold War, which was based in the previous decade.
