Dortley’s future limbo: Kaizer Chiefs and Euro giants show interest

Dortley’s future is in limbo after Cape Town Spurs relegation in the 2023/2024 season. Several key players are attracting attention from PSL clubs but the management is trying their utmost to retain their stars. Among them is Rushwin Dortley who has become a hot prospect for suitors. Kaizer Chiefs reportedly have been keen on acquiring his talents since last season when they were fighting for promotion to the top flight. However, top local clubs showing an interest including Chiefs are being priced out by Spurs demands.

Dortley’s Chiefs Connection: The Inside Story

During his stint with the Spurs in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Dortley caught the eye of Kaizer Chiefs. However, the 22-year-old also garnered interest from international clubs. Which led to an assessment at Danish powerhouse FC Nordsjaelland last season. Despite performing exceptionally well, Dortley couldn’t make the move as Cape Town Spurs were vying for promotion to the DStv Premiership at the time.

Dortley’s future : Agency reveals what really happened

Siyavuma Sports Group(SSG), Dortley’s agency, explained the situation. “Rushwin went to FC Nordsjaelland last year and did extremely well, it was going to be a possible loan with an option to buy, there was a significant loan fee because obviously at that time Cape Town Spurs, in that January window were going for promotion, so they were slightly reluctant to do the deal then,” SSG revealed to Kick Off.

Dortley, a left-footed centre-back with a rare combination of physicality and composure, is a standout player. “Rushwin is a quality player in terms of his position, you don’t see a lot in South Africa, left-footed centre-back, with a good physique, a good stature, easy on the eye, cool, calm and collected, with a certain aggression when needed, “SSG noted.

Kaizer Chiefs’ Renewed Interest

Despite signing Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Chiefs are still interested in Dortley. However, SSG prioritises an overseas move for the talented defender.

“We wouldn’t comment (on Chiefs). Obviously Chiefs have signed a left-footed centre-back (since then),” SSG responded when asked about Chiefs reports.

“Our focus as an agency has always been to take the quality players abroad as a first option. That has always been our company policy, although not so easy these days given the lack of footage available to overseas clubs, with the Wyscout problem becoming increasingly frustrating for clubs, players and agencies alike.

“That being said, we are confident that Rushwin’s future is very bright,” SSG added.

Cape Town Spurs demand top dollar for Dortley and co.

An inside source makes sense of the Dortley’s future and other Spurs stars transfer situation: “At the moment there has been no change with regards to Dortley moving on,” source told The South African.

“There has been lots of interest from mainly the local market. But they are not willing to pay Spurs’ asking price. Getting him an overseas move will be harder but not impossible with limited footage available.”

In other news, Kaizer Chiefs face a tough challenge as they prepare for their final game of the season against relegated Cape Town Spurs. Chiefs aim to secure a top-eight finish but will be without six key players. These players include George Matlou, Keagan Dolly, Reeve Frosler, Dillan Solomons, and Tebogo Potsane due to injuries. Edmilson Dove will also miss out due to a red card suspension. Amakhosi will be aiming to end on a high note before bringing in their new coach.
