Fast food range for patients on Ozempic includes frozen pizzas and pasta

When you're on a severe weight loss diet you are going to have to make a few serious sacrifices, right? Well, not necessarily.

In response to the colossal uptake in the number of patients taking the weight loss jab Ozempic, food company Nestlé has invested heavily to come up with a menu that will help patients stick to their plan without having to give up their takeaway treats.

They've launched a new range of frozen pizzas and protein-enriched pastas with the menu designed specifically for weight-loss patients in mind.

Ozempic is an appetite suppressant traditionally given to diabetes patients but increasingly it is being used by people looking to shed weight.

The use of the drug is growing rapidly, with one in eight adults in the states taking the drug. But it's estimated between 10 and 70 million could be on it within the next four years.

According to the President of the US meal division Tom Moe, the new range offers a 'food solution' for people on the highly-complex medication, meeting 'the right nutrition – high protein, good fibre, the right minerals' their body needs, including potassium and vitamin C.

The Vital Pursuits range is due to hit the shelves in the States in October, at a super competitive price of around €5 for a meal.

Nestlé chiefs say they are busily trying to develop 'companion products' between now and the launch date, with pan pizzas and the like designed to limit the 'loss of lean muscle mass' in people on the drug.

Patients taking the medication stand a chance of losing lean muscle mass as they lose weight as they no longer have the urge to eat frequently. Some even develop an aversion to protein and fat.

Experts are welcoming the development of this new range, saying people on Ozempic need support from these companies to live a more sustainable lifestyle.

It's not the first time Nestlé followed diet trends: the company were responsible for Lean Cuisine, a low-calorie meal plan with high levels of fibre, protein and other micronutrients in the 1980s.
