Furious AOC melts down over Supreme Court Justice Alito's 'Appeal to Heaven' flag at his beach house and calls it a 'threat to democracy'

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said Justice Alito should be investigated READ MORE: Why did Alito fly an upside down American flag after Jan. 6?

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fumed that a Supreme Court Justice is a threat to democracy because of a flag displayed at his beach home last year.

AOC went on MSNBC to slam Justice Samuel Alito for flying a Revolutionary War-era flag featuring a pine tree and the slogan 'An Appeal to Heaven' at his New Jersey vacation home last summer.

The flag originally was designed to be flown by U.S. naval ships in the Revolutionary War that were directly under the command of George Washington. Like the Gadsden Flag, which popularly features a snake and the 'Don't Tread On Me' slogan, and the American flag itself, it was flown on January 6, 2021, by some protestors.

And because of its use at the protest, at least in the eyes of the New York Democrat, whoever flies it therefore supports the Capitol riot.

'Samuel Alito has identified himself with the same people who raided the Capitol on January 6,' AOC told host Chris Hayes.

She continued, saying Alito 'is now going to be presiding over court cases that have deep implications over the participants of that rally.'

'And while this is the threat to our democracy, Democrats have a responsibility for demand defending our democracy.'

Ocasio-Cortez then went on to claim that she has been at the forefront of protecting democracy.

'This is an alarm that I've been sounding for quite some time now,' she said.

'I think that what we are seeing here is an extraordinary breach of not just the trust and the stature of the Supreme Court, but we are seeing a fundamental challenge to our democracy.'

The progressive 'Squad' member also suggested that the Democrat-controlled Senate should investigate Alito for flying the falg.

'In the Senate, we have gavels and there should be subpoenas going out,' the progressive said.

'There should be active investigations that are happening.'

Ocasio-Cortez said that House Democrats are also prepared to protect democracy once they have the majority, presuming they win in November.

'I believe that when House Democrats take the majority, we are preparing and ensuring to support the broader effort to stand up our democracy but I also believe that when Democrats have power, we have to use it.'

This is just the latest flag drama for Alito, who has recently come under fire from Democrats after his wife flew an American flag upside down at their Virginia home days before Biden was inaugurated in 2021.

Flying the flag in that manner is typically seen as a way to signal distress, and Democrats believe it was a political statement Alito made against their then president-elect Joe Biden.

Supreme Court Justices are not supposed to express political views - and many liberals have said that the upside down flag was an inappropriate form of expression by Alito.

The Justice, meanwhile, has said it was his wife who raised the inverted American flag.

Apparently, Alito's wife raised the upside down flag due to a dispute she had at the time with their neighbors.
