Can you spot the difference in this seemingly ordinary podcast?

It seems like every Z-list celebrity and reality star has a podcast these days, but can you tell what makes this one truly unique?

Eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted that its co-host, Jake, appears a bit stiff and robotic - and it's not because he's camera shy.

Jake is a fully artificial intelligence-generated avatar.

Human podcast host Jakob Wredstrøm, who created Jake as a digital clone of himself, says his is the first AI podcast.

can you spot the difference in this seemingly ordinary podcast?

Jakob Wredstrøm, the creator of the podcast Sound Connections, created an AI version of himself called Jake (pictured). It is nearly impossible to discern between the human and AI co-host who also carries human-like mannerisms and responses.

Wredstrøm, the founder of Capella Entertainment, introduced the Sound Connections podcast in August of last year with the intent to introduce the AI named 'Jake' as his virtual counterpart - the pair had practiced interviewing together for months before Jake made his formal debut.

Jake appeared on the podcast earlier this month to introduce himself and a week later, the AI solely hosted his own three-minute segment where he discussed Tencent Music Entertainment's use of AI in the music industry.

The AI co-host responded back-and-forth in a way that appeared not only realistic, but genuine - the same way two humans would hold a conversation, segueing the discussion when needed and reverting back to other topics autonomously.

The AI podcast comes in the wake of a similarly controversial development in the news industry.

A Canadian news channel was criticized for using AI-generated newscasters.

'This is utterly utterly terrifying,' Alec Lazenby, a Canadian BC Today reporter wrote on X at the time.

'While the development of an entirely AI-powered broadcast is beyond impressive, it could have huge ramifications for an already depleted news industry and accelerate the loss of high-quality reporters and anchors,' Lazenby wrote.

Jake Wredstrøm (pictured) created the AI co-host to shed light on the impact this technology will have on the future of podcasts

One of the major concerns is deepfakes, images or video that create an identical visual of a person, which makes the viewer question if the content is real or not, said Lee Rainie an AI researcher at Elon University in North Carolina.

'I was just sort of stepping back and trying to access the bs-detector stuff about whether I can believe this,' Rainie told DailyMail.com.

He added that this kind of AI-generated host will make people question if there is something else going on behind the scenes or if the video is being manipulated in some way.

However, Jake said in the clip that his addition to the podcast world is a 'mind-blowing shift' that will 'make AI seem less like a sci-fi movie and more like the friendly neighbor who just happens to be super tech-savvy.'

'Even at the edge of creativity and cognition, this is something that feels very human,' Rainie said in response to Jake's video.

'... This fits right into the big issue of AI as sort of a conversational partner, as an assistant, as a companion - it's a very vivid example of how this might play out.'

In the podcast, Jake acknowledged the absurdity of a conversation between a human and an AI co-host but encouraged people to keep an open mind.

'Those folks out there who might be eyeballing us sideways wondering what on digital earth is going on here, well dear listeners, if my existence as an AI version of Jakob has you doing a double take I'd say embrace the curiosity,' Jake said.

Despite Jake's assurances that being an AI host will be a good move, other tech experts aren't as sure, with some voicing concerns that automated systems could develop potential biases and factual inaccuracies.

'AI is only as good as the data it is trained on,' said Roger Nairn, the co-founder and CEO of JAR Audio, a podcast production and marketing agency.

'If we’re talking about large language models that are feeding off content from the great wide web, we all know that source content can be biased, and frequently contains mistakes,' he continued.

'If you play around with these programs, you quickly learn to take their assertions with a grain of salt. They present information confidently, but it is often riddled with error.'

Nairn said he is concerned about the rampant adoption of AI in the podcast realm, citing that it will 'lower the overall bar in terms of quality and make authentic content harder to find.'

Wredstrøm created Jake out of the 'need to understand where things are moving and how fast,' he told DailyMail.com.

He clarified that it's important to show people where the podcast industry is going so they are educated and can pivot to include AI in their business.

'It’s about staying ahead of the curve and sharing that journey with the industry so no one’s blindsided by these waves of change,' AI Jake said in the clip.
