Severe Storms Pack Tornado, Hail And High Wind Threats In Plains, Midwest, South Through The Weekend

Dangerous severe storms will produce tornadoes, destructive straight-line winds, damaging hail and flooding rainfall in multiple rounds across the Plains, Midwest and mid-South through Memorial Day weekend.

Forecast Breakdown
It's already been an active week, and the threat of severe weather is going to continue through the holiday weekend as multiple jet stream disturbances tap into warm and humid air Here's a day-by-day look at what we know right now, according to the latest outlooks from NOAA's Storm Prediction Center.

Thursday and Friday
- Severe weather on Thursday could occur over a fairly large area of the Plains, with wind damage, large hail and a few tornadoes being the main threats. The most likely area for severe storms is expected in central and eastern Nebraska, southwest Iowa and northeast Kansas. More isolated severe storms could also impact parts of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic.
- Friday's severe weather should be widely scattered, mainly impacting an area from northeast Texas to the mid-Mississippi and lower Ohio valleys and the southwestern Great Lakes. Wind damage and large hail are the primary threats.

Memorial Day Weekend
- The threat of significant severe weather will rise again this holiday weekend. Keep this in mind and make sure you have a plan for sheltering from severe storms, especially if you have outdoor plans.
- Threats this weekend will include several tornadoes, possibly strong, as well as damaging straight-line winds and hail. Flash flooding is also concern.
- Saturday, the greatest potential for severe weather will be in the Plains, especially from northern Texas to parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, western Missouri, western and central Arkansas and southern Nebraska. Oklahoma City and Wichita, Kansas, are among the cities at risk.
- Sunday's severe weather threat will shift a bit farther east into the Ohio, mid-Mississippi and Tennessee valleys.
- Some additional severe weather is possible on Memorial Day in parts of the South and mid-Atlantic, but details are uncertain.
