"I got so tired of everybody talking about these foreigners" - Nick Young says the Boston Celtics won the title for America

The Boston Celtics winning the 2024 championship thrilled plenty of people, especially because it was a long time coming for the franchise. Nick Young is among those who expressed happiness for the team's title run. However, his reason might have people falling over laughing.

Per the retired sniper, the Celtics won the championship for the USA.

"Let's give it up for America because we won, baby," Young said. "America won, baby. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown did it for America. They put Luka [Doncic's] a** out. Oh my God. I got so tired of everybody talking about these foreigners and sh*t. America is here, baby. It's America's league."

Domination of non-Americans

For many years now, the talks about the Association's best players have been dominated by mostly Europeans. Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Luka Doncic have been credited as the cream of the crop who succeeded the sport's aging legends, including LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry, as the kings of the league.

Jokic and Antetokounmpo have won five MVP awards in the past six seasons. Joel Embiid claimed the other. Although he will be representing the U.S. in the Paris Olympics, he is Cameroonian by blood and has also considered playing for Team France in international competitions.

Even the All-NBA First Teams of the past four years have had more non-Americans, with Tatum being the only Yankee among the selections in 2023 and 2024.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with that, as it is a sign that basketball has become more global than it was decades ago. But perhaps for "Swaggy P," seeing his compatriots get overtaken by imports is a tough sight.

Tatum and Brown make Young proud

Some people probably anticipated that Jokic and the Denver Nuggets would repeat as champions this season. And when Doncic led the Dallas Mavericks to the Finals, they were thought to be capable of upsetting the league-leading Celtics.

However, Tatum and Brown had other things on their mind, leading Boston to a 4-1 dismantling of Dallas. While JT displayed his all-around offensive game, JB secured the Finals MVP thanks to his on-court brilliance, leadership, and impressive defense against the Slovenian superstar.

Young is evidently ecstatic that the two Jays have shown the league that they deserve to be included in the discussion of the greatest players today, especially now that they have a ring to show for it — that is, if Brown can find him after losing it during the championship parade.

Still, some might have to remind the Swaggy that Americans have continued to dominate the Finals. Besides Jokic and Antetokounmpo, who hoisted the trophy in 2021 and 2023, James, Curry, Kawhi Leonard, and Durant were the best players on NBA championship squads in the past years.
