Flu cases surging as new COVID-19 variant emerges
We were warned, and now we know why. The latest data from NSW Health reveals that 3220 cases of influenza were notified in the week to May 18. That's up more than 60% from the week before, when there were 2016 cases. Those increases are across all age groups, but particularly among children aged three to four. Hospital admissions remain low, but there's likely to be a substantial surge of flu cases in coming weeks. The other virus of concern is RSV cases, up 16% in a week. It's stabilising for children under 2, but it is still high for those aged 2:00 to 4:00. And COVID-19 hasn't gone away. Notifications were up 23%.
