The water level in Angat Dam dipped below its minimum operating level on Thursday, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.
In its latest Dam Water Level Update, PAGASA said the water level in Angat Dam dropped to 179.68 meters from 180.07 on Wednesday.
The minimum operating level of Angat Dam is 180 meters.
Angat Dam in Bulacan supplies around 90% of the water needs of Metro Manila, Rizal, and portions of Cavite and Bulacan.
On May 17, the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) said it had lowered the water allocation for Metro Manila.
The allocation for the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) was reduced from 50 to 49 cubic meters per second until the end of May.
According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the move does not mean water supply will be interrupted.
However, all concerned areas are already experiencing a slight reduction in pressure during off-peak hours from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Aside from Angat Dam, the water level in other dams such as La Mesa, San Roque, and Caliraya also dropped on Thursday.
PAGASA on March 22 declared the start of the warm and dry season in the country. It previously said the El Niño phenomenon started on July 4 last year—which meant lesser rainfall. --Joviland Rita/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
