Red Sox considered 'obvious' suitors for star Yankees outfielder

The Boston Red Sox, with a strong farm system and a young core, are in prime position to add some big pieces this offseason, and they're already being linked to one big fish in their own division.

In a report this week from MLB insider Jon Heyman, Boston is considered one team that could make a run at Yankees outfielder Juan Soto if he makes it to free agency at the end of the year.

"Though there’s sure to be outside interest in 25-year-old superstar Juan Soto — the Mets, Dodgers, Phillies, and Red Sox are obvious potential outside suitors — some rival GMs are starting to wonder if there’s a real chance he’d leave the Yankees," Heyman wrote.

However, one general manager insinuated to Heyman that Soto would probably remain with New York.

"He's going to be staying, no?" they said to Heyman.

At this point, it's strange for Boston to be considered suitors for any big name. They've shown in recent years that their strategy has completely changed. They aren't going to be among the top spenders each year.

Maybe having one of the best, young stars in the game would change their minds, but if that were the case, Mookie Betts would probably still be suiting up for the Red Sox.
