Kamal Haasan on friendship with Rajinikanth: Competition is there, but no envy

Kamal Haasan, in a recent interview, talked about his friendship with Rajinikanth and how they laid out rules for each other in the early days of their careers. They have a common mentor, K Balachander, one of the iconic filmmakers of Tamil cinema. He explained that they share a great bond and have supported each other's work throughout the years.

In an interview, the 'Vikram' actor said, "It's not a new combination. We have done many films together. Then we decided not to work together. We are not like two competitors. We had the same mentor. Unlike any other place, the competition is there, openly. But there's no envy, and it's two different paths."

Describing their relationship, he said, "We also never make snide remarks about each other. We made this call when we were in our 20s; it's not that we became older and wiser now."

Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth first acted in K Balachander's 'Apoorva Ragangal' in 1975. Subsequently, they acted in many films such as '16 Vayathinile', 'Ninaithale Inikkum', among other films.

On the work front, Kamal Haasan is awaiting the release of his upcoming film, 'Indian 2', directed by Shankar. The film is gearing up for a grand release in theatres on July 12 in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The makers are planning to release 'Indian 3' six months after the second part.

Rajinikanth will be seen next in director TJ Gnanavel's 'Vettaiyan'. The film will hit theatres on October 10, alongside Suriya's 'Kanguva'. He will also begin the shooting of Lokesh Kanagaraj's 'Coolie' in July.
