See all the photos Wexford Festival Opera volunteers enjoy annual barbeque at Clayton Whites Hotel
It was the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhaur who penned the phrase “music is the food of the soul” so it was fitting that the powers that be at Wexford Festival Opera and the National Opera House should thank their near 400 volunteers with just that – food.
The annual barbeque to give thanks to almost 400 volunteers who give their time during the year and Festival time took place last week at Clayton Whites Hotel. The volunteers are legendary for taking on roles which are far reaching in their variety and would make the Festival near impossible to stage if not for their time and dedication.
For three volunteers in particular, it was an extra-special evening. Ted Howlin, Nuala Byrne and Eleanor White were all honoured for 50 years of exemplary service to Wexford Festival Opera. Paul Cleary, chairman of Wexford Festival Trust, made presentations on the night to each of the three volunteers.
For over 10 years now Ecclesiastical Insurance Ireland have sponsored the Wexford Festival Opera Volunteer Programme and will again this year sponsor the Ecclesiastical/ Wexford Festival Opera Volunteer of the Year Award, the recipient of which will be announced in October.
