A Quiet Place: Day One's Rotten Tomatoes Debut Score Is Worthy of the Original Duology
The A Quiet Place franchise took a different approach to the horror subgenre with its focus on characters, following a family trying to survive the apocalypse. The two films were very successful that they spawned a prequel titled A Quiet Place: Day One, whose Rotten Tomatoes debut seems to be worthy of the franchise.
A Quiet Place: Day One's score on Rotten Tomatoes has just been revealed, debuting on the review aggregator website with 87% from 55 reviews. The score is highly encouraging, given that the original duology had a score higher than 90% from the critics and the audience. Of course, the new entry in the franchise's score might change as new reviews come in, but it's up to a great start, as the first reactions for Day One had already been positive.

Black Panther franchise star Lupita Nyong'o offers unusual MCU advice for A Quiet Place: Day co-star, Joseph Quinn.
A Quiet Place: Day One takes moviegoers right to the center of the action in Manhattan, New York City, right when the meteor hit and the sound-sensitive aliens started roaming the streets. Unlike the first two films, which had John Krasinski at the helm, the new film found a director in Pig's Michael Sarnoski. Day One also follows Sam (Lupita Nyong'o) and Eric (Joseph Quinn), who are brand-new characters in the franchise. Krasinski and Emily Blunt are not in the film, but the creator of the franchise maintained a co-writing credit and is a producer for the prequel.
Day One is a prequel that doesn't need to exist, but makes a good case for its existence anyway.
"Not only is A Quiet Place: Day One an unexpectedly excellent third entry in a franchise... but also a conversation starter about what we hold true in our lives," writes The Gate's Andrew Parker, with Nerdist's DarkSkyLady noting that, "A Quiet Place: Day One is an outstanding movie that emotionally guts you as much as it makes you jump in fright. It delivers a film that leaves audiences awash in a myriad of feelings, from terror to shock to laughter." Most of the reviews praised Lupita Nyong'o's acting, but also how well she and Quinn balance each other, and the cat's role in the film.
CBR's Ben Wasserman also notes in the A Quiet Place: Day One review that "Day One is a prequel that doesn't need to exist, but makes a good case for its existence anyway," adding that the new entry "proves this franchise still has interesting stories to tell, be it from another character's perspective or in a different medium."

A Quiet Place Franchise Will Continue
So far, John Krasinski directed the first two films that follow the Abbott family, starring Krasinski, Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe, adding Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou in the second installment. With the prequel out in theaters on June 28, 2024, featuring a new cast and director, the franchise is far from over. Day One star Lupita Nyong'o noted that the franchise "could go on forever," as the alien invasion gives the opportunity to tell multiple stories, like the Abbott's and Sam's.
Krasinski will also return to direct A Quiet Place Part III, which will mark the third and final sequel in the series. The film is currently in development and intended to hit theaters in 2025, and Blunt is expected to return as Evelyn, as well as Murphy as Emmett. A video game called A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is also in development.
