The Philadelphia 76ers appear to have momentum on their side right now. They have managed to reach an agreement with their top target of the offseason, Paul George, and he is not the only fresh face headed to the City of Brotherly Love.
The 76ers have brought in some high-profile backup for Joel Embiid as well, as they look to build a roster that can compete for the Championship moving forward.
According to Michael Scotto of Hoopshype, the 76ers and free agent center Andre Drummond have agreed to a two-year, $10+ million deal. The 30-year-old gets a player option Year 2.
After playing for the Chicago Bulls for the previous two seasons, Drummond will now add a quality backup option to the 76ers for Embiid, who has a history of injuries.
Drummond started off at the Detroit Pistons and was a star player for them before bouncing around a number of teams across the league and settling into the role of a reliable backup option in recent years.
That does not mean that he still does not bring a lot to the table. He remains a very effective rebounder. Last season, Drummond averaged 9.0 rebounds in 17.1 minutes of action per game. He averaged nearly 18 rebounds per game in his 10 starts.
Drummond has already had a stint with the 76ers but was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in the deal involving James Harden.
Of course, there were many who were unsure whether signing Drummond was the right step for the 76ers.
The 76ers picked Adem Bona out of UCLA in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft. They also have Paul Reed in their ranks.
