Salt Bae alert! Deion Sanders often comes up with a lesson now and then, leading to reflection. But this time, his son, Shilo Sanders, added a sprinkle of mischief to Coach Prime's woes. While Deion is all set to boost the Buffs' recruits' NIL valuation by appearing in a commercial, he ensures he takes care of his amputated toes. But who thought he would bring a new lesson from his foot care session? The Buffs head coach is clever enough to draw an analogy with his other wounds that continue to bother him, though not physically. Shilo's action that followed is enough for you to guess what he intended.

Deion Sanders comes up with unexpected philosophical reflections

As the Buffs recruits and Shilo barged into Deion's van, they found the Buffs head coach busy taking his foot treatment. After the amputation of his toes, Coach Prime's foot now demands special care frequently. Deion suddenly decided to add a touch of philosophical learning as the conversation with the players rolled. He started with, "This is no joke. Sometimes it hurt where the toes are supposed to be..how does that hurt where the toes are supposed to be?" Till now, the players were in the belief that their coach was sharing his painful journey of post-amputation procedures.  But the coach then hit a plot twist, "You know that makes me know that that we care about things in life that are no longer with us but it's with us." It did not take much time for the players to understand the scar in Deion's heart. While others remained silent, Shilo came up with a mischievous act. Imitating the Kurdish butcher chef, Nusret Gökçe, aka Salt Bae, who has become an internet sensation for sprinkling salt over cuts of meat, the Buffs' safety pulled out a similar act of fake-sprinkling salt over his father's amputated toes. However, why does Coach Prime have to suffer so much?    

Coach Prime's struggle with his foot

To bring himself out of the physical pain, Sanders has undergone 12 surgeries! Yes, you read that right. Not one, not two, but he has made TWELVE ROUNDS to the operation theater since blood clots and other complications added up to the risk of losing his whole foot to amputation. In one of his interviews with the Bleacher Report, Deion said, "Man, forget the toes. They were charcoal black. They were dead. You look down there and it's two black toes. Take 'em. What am I going to do with them?" He got the fingers removed in 2021. But the pain continued to linger. So again, in June last year, he further discussed with the doctors who recommended surgery on both feet to address the clotting, but "no talk of amputation," he said. But not even for a day did Deion allow the pain to dominate his mental strength; instead, he focused on the learning process.  He said, "My health journey has been a tremendous challenge but a learning experience as well." He has made his "eight toes down" physique a part of his existence. To him, losses add up to a person's story of life. All he wants for his son Shilo and other Buffs recruits is for them to draw courage from the pain and carry on with their lives.
