Voters in long-time Liberal B.C. riding react to Tories' byelection win in Toronto
Well in the federal by election of Toronto St. Paul's, it's a bellwether for the upcoming federal election and it does not look good for the Liberals. That riding was a long time Liberal stronghold going all the way back to 1993. Well here in BC, the Vancouver Quadra riding has been a Liberal stronghold even longer all the way back to 1984 with former Prime Minister John Turner. Now it's held by Joyce Murray today, who is not running for re election. The CB CS Gurpreet Campbell headed out to the riding to see how people were feeling about the federal election coming up in 2025. I mean, it's a, it's a real Liberal stronghold, has been for a while. But then we saw what happened in Saint Paul's. I feel a bit politically homeless, to be honest. But I don't know, maybe I'll vote Conservative for the first time in my life too. So I don't know. I'm concerned with our infrastructure in terms of housing. We're allowing speculators to buy up what should be homes for people. We're allowing people to use it, you know, like a stock market and just see what happens. And that's problematic. Well, I think that it looks like the Conservatives have a better chance than I'd like to be seen, especially after the results of the Toronto by election last night. I think that the Liberals need a new leader. I'm disappointed with the NDP and I'm quite concerned if the Conservative leader becomes the Prime Minister. He's constantly badgering the other leaders, but not saying what he will do differently and how he will do it. So I think it's one thing to identify the problem, but if you don't talk about solutions and resolutions, then you're you're no better than the last guy. People are finding it more and more difficult to have a safe community to live in. As I think if if you don't have a safe place to live, regardless of all of your other circumstances, then it's really difficult to get healthy, to get over addictions, to keep a job or get a job. I'm actually looking forward to a change in government myself. I Joyce Marie's being great, but just the Liberal Party. I happy to see them go. I think the Liberal Party is it's time to go. They're not business friendly. They're certainly not military friendly. They spend more money on various strange programs and not enough on seniors and health in my mind, but primarily from a business point of view. They're not a friendly government. I think for me too, I it's just the level of the debt increase is just skyrocketed with Mr. Trudeau being in the last two terms. So do I love everything about the Conservative Party? No, but I, I think it's time for a change. Yeah, it's for me, It's just, it's just the debt. It's huge. I mean, you know, we have young adult children and the burden's going to be on them, right? Lack of fiscal responsibility. Yeah. The lack of fiscal responsibility, I'd say is probably our biggest issue. So I just think that Polly Ebb is a dangerous guy. Well, I just think he's, he's very critical of, of other parties and other candidates without really showing any factual solutions to the things he's complaining about, You know, so it's very easy to he's in a position where, you know, Trudeau's in trouble and he can criticize Kelly's blue in the face, but I mean, he hasn't provided any possible solutions that are are reasonable. I don't think I I think homelessness would be a big concern of mine and dealing with the homeless problem and trying to solve that, which I think is extremely difficult and difficult for anybody. For the first time in my life, I feel very apathetic about the election. He's to be really exciting about excited about voting. I think just again and again, hearing politicians say one thing during election season and then never follow through on those promises. Election reform I think is a really big one. I don't feel like my vote counts at any of the elections. And I just know that's because, like, I it makes me feel like I must not be part of the majority. But I also know like, the people I talk to, there's there's a good group of people my age that agree with me. So, yeah, I just feel like I don't see my voice or my vote in the actual, like how politics are run on the day-to-day. But during election season, I sometimes feel like they pander to me. And that's annoying. Very scared. I mean, I don't think we want Pauliev and the way I've got dear friends who are considering voting for him because they're tired of Justin Trudeau and I can't go that far. Where are the great leaders? You know, we need statement quality leaders. Bob Stanfield, terrific. Joe Clark, terrific. Those guys, even Mulroney, right? Stephen Harper not so good because they all came out of Preston Manning. There you go. That is our own Gurpreet Cambo speaking with residents of Vancouver Quadra about the 2025 federal election. Vancouver Quadra, a longtime Liberal stronghold.
