England star Ivan Toney's father 'has Rolex stolen from hotel room'

England star Ivan Toney's father had a Rolex stolen from his Dusseldorf hotel room while he supported his son at England's opening Euro 2024 fixture.

Ivan Snr had left the designer watch in a room at the Melia Hotel, a 45-minute drive away from Gelsenkirchen Stadium which played host to the Three Lions' match against Serbia on June 16.

But when he returned to the £400-a-night suite he found the luxury timepiece had been pinched and reported the theft to the hotel.

The Brentford striker was an unused substitute during the Euros game, which ended 1-0 to England thanks to an early Jude Bellingham header.

A police investigation has been launched into the watch, which is of an unknown type and value, although officers are confident it will contain a serial number and therefore be easier to track down.

A number of players' families are thought to have been staying at the Melia during the early stages of the tournament which has seen England progress to the knockout stages after a 1-1 draw to Denmark and a 0-0 stalemate against Slovenia.

Ivan Jnr, who is reportedly close to both his separated parents, has been pictured wearing a Rolex Day Date watch worth a whopping £53,350.

A source told The Sun: 'It's being taken very seriously because of the very high value of the property taken - and is a matter of serious concern to the hotel management.'

A hotel spokesman said: 'The matter was promptly reported to the authorities, who are now undertaking the pertinent investigation.

'We are fully cooperating with the police in all necessary aspects of their inquiry and, on our part, have no further comments to provide while the investigation is in progress.'

MailOnline has approached Düsseldorf police for comment.

Ivan Snr, who supported his son during a youth career which included stints at Newcastle United, Barnsley, Peterborough United and Northampton Town, was in Germany hoping to see his son's first appearance for England overseas.

And as he headed off for his first international tournament, the Premier League forward could be seen showing off a £3,450 bag and a £3,950 backpack both from luxury French brand Goyard - once the official purveyor to the British Royal Family.

Last week Toney revealed that he and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins are still 'mimicking' opposition strikers in training, amid calls for Harry Kane to be dropped.

He added: 'It is tough [to be understudy to Kane], but you have to stay ready, be ready. Near enough everyone in the team starts with their club, and there is a way to adapt to being a sub or being a non-used sub.

'There are times I have done it before in my career, when I went to Peterborough and was on the bench. When my chance came, I took it, and hopefully I can do the same if I get a chance here.'

Toney admits he thought Kane was not at his best versus Denmark, but he has defended his team-mate against some of the criticism.

The Brentford man went into the tournament refreshed after enjoying a family holiday in Dubai where he posted some wholesome pictures with his children as they played in the sand.

However, it wasn't all relaxation for the Brentford man as he also shared a video with his hands on his knees following a training session.

Toney was banned from playing football for eight months after admitting to 232 betting breaches, making his return for the London side in January.
