How are Barcelona’s stars faring at Euro 2024?

Euro 2024 is heading into the knockout stages with 10 Barcelona players still involved in the tournament in Germany.

Here’s a quick look at how Barcelona’s internationals have been getting on at the tournament and who they face next as we head towards the business end of the competition.

Spain and Yamal looking a cut above

Spain have looked the best team at Euro 2024 and indeed are the only side to have maintained a 100% record throughout the group stages.

Lamine Yamal has played a key role and been one of the team’s top performers along with Barcelona-target Nico Williams.

Pedri has played all three matches too, notching one assist, while Ferran Torres grabbed the only chance he’s had with both hands by scoring the winner against Albania.

Fermin got a few minutes in that match too and will only play a bit-part role, perhaps just as well as he’s also heading to the Olympics with Spain.

The only downside for Spain is they are in the tougher half of the draw, along with Germany, Portugal and France. They play Georgia next in the last 16.

Gundogan & Germany looking strong

Germany are also safely through after topping their group with two wins and a draw to set up a last 16 tie with Denmark.

Captain Ilkay Gundogan has really impressed for Julian Nagelsmann’s side, with a goal and an assist to his name, and looks vital to their hopes of success.

As expected, Marc-Andre ter Stegen has had to spend his time on the bench and will stay there until the end unless Manuel Neuer picks up an injury.

Favorites France yet to fire

France headed into the tournament as one of the hot favourites but are yet to really fire and ended up finishing second behind Austria in Group D.

Jules Kounde has played every minute for Les Bleus at right-back, with Didier Deschamps’s men having conceded just one goal so far.

France now go on to play Belgium in the last 16 and will need to improve if they are up to live up to their pre-tournament billing and end up as champions.

Cancelo & Felix with work to do

Portugal are another team yet to really light up the tournament despite a squad absolutely packed full of attacking talent.

Joao Cancelo played in the wins over Czechia and Turkey but was given a breather in their final group game which ended in a shock defeat to Georgia.

Joao Felix did start that game but couldn’t score and will likely to drop back down to the bench on Monday when Roberto Martinez’s side take on Slovenia in the last 16.

Christensen’s Denmark edge through

Andreas Christensen’s Denmark are also in the last 16, just about, after finishing as runners-up behind England in a very dull Group C.

Yet the Barcelona defender has been impressing. He set a new record against Slovenia after finishing the match with a 100% pass accuracy rate.

Christensen also won his 133rd international cap against Serbia. That’s a new record for a male Danish player and one he’ll extend against Germany on Monday.

Lewandowski’s heading home

The only Barcelona player not to make it through to the last 16 was Robert Lewandowski. An injury before the tournament meant he only started once, scoring in a 1-1 draw with France that was not enough to progress.

Lewandowski will now get a rest before Barcelona are due to being pre-season next month. The Catalans will be hoping that Lewandowski, and Frenkie de Jong who ended up missing the tournament due to injury, can be fit and firing in time for the new season.
