Will Bernardo Silva Leave Manchester City this Summer?

Bernardo Silva’s desire for a new experience away from Manchester City is an open secret. Praised by his teammates both at club and international level as one of the most intelligent players in the world, he is certainly a key member in any team he features. The Portuguese international has been a huge asset for Manchester City, featuring prominently in all of City’s trophy wins since he joined from Monaco.

Mr. Versatile, the 29-year-old has been Pep Guardiola’s go-to man to change the game when the City boss needs to switch things up in difficult matches.

From playing in the midfield, to the wings, to operating as a false nine and even in defence as a left-back, Silva has done it all. And he will do even more if the manager needs him to.

Is not surprising then that he remains one of Guardiola’s favorite players in the team. Given the choice, the Catalan boss will have him stay at the club for as long as he can keep him. But he also respects the player’s wishes.

So the City gaffer has made it clear that whenever there’s a suitable offer Silva is free to leave. The player has come close to leaving in previous transfer windows but stayed because no club met his release clause.

The club renewed his contract last summer that should keep him at the Etihad Stadium for the next two years. But a reported £50m release clause in his contract means it’s now easier to lure him away.

Bayern Munich have been reported to be leading the race for the midfielder’s signature. But Barcelona have maintained a strong interest for several years now, although the Spanish giants are struggling with finances.

With Vincent Kompany now in charge of the German side, that may be the deciding factor in Silva moving to Bayern.

It will not be surprising if the Portuguese stays at City next season especially with two years left on his contract. But at this point, it’s more likely that he will leave.
