Joan, ITV

Classy drama about diamond thief Joan Hannington, set in 1980s London. Joan ( Sophie Turner ) turns to crime to escape her terrible marriage.

Until I Kill You, ITV

A true-crime drama with Shaun Evans as serial killer John Sweeney and Anna Maxwell Martin as Delia Balmer, the woman who survived an attack by John and gave vital evidence in the prosecution against her former lover.

Nightsleeper, BBC1

This real-time thriller is set on the sleeper from Glasgow to London as the train speeds out of control. It’s up to off-duty police officer Joe (Joe Cole) and cyber expert Abby (Alexandra Roach) to stop it. The Speed-style six-parter is due on in early autumn.

Bad Monkey, Apple TV+

This comedy stars Vince Vaughn as Andrew Yancy, a detective turned health inspector in Florida who is pulled into a dark world after a severed arm is found on a beach. Due to start on August 14.

The Lady in the Lake, Apple TV+

Natalie Portman takes on her first lead role in a TV series

Natalie Portman takes on her first lead role in a TV series playing Maddie, a Jewish housewife in 1960s Baltimore who tries to become an investigative journalist only to become obsessed with two strange deaths. Starts July 19.

Suspect, Channel 4

Anne-Marie Duff is back this summer as Dr Susannah Newman, who is on a mission to discover the truth about her daughter’s death.

When a mysterious new client makes an admission under hypnosis, Susannah tries to save a life.

McDonald & Dodds, ITV

Jason Watkins and Tala Gouveia reprise their roles as DS Dodds and DCI Lauren McDonald, investigating a murder on a bus and a killer terrorising the wedding season in Bath among other mysteries in series four.

The Mallorca Files, Prime

Brit detective Miranda Blake (Elen Rhys), and her German partner Max Winter (Julian Looman), returns for a third series, moving from the BBC to Prime Video. They tackle arson, kidnap, and murder in the eight-parter. But the big question is will they ever see that they are the perfect love match?

Dalgliesh, Ch5

Three more PD James novels have been adapted for a third run. Bertie Carvel is back as detective Adam Dalgliesh, joined by Carlyss Peer as DS Kate Miskin.

Grace, ITV

John Simm is returning as Det Supt Roy Grace keeping the streets of Brighton safe. Fans will be pleased to hear Richie Campbell is returning as Roy’s loyal partner in crime, DS Glenn Branson, along with Craig Parkinson as DS Norman Potting.

Each crime is solved over two hours, with past series on ITVX.

Midsomer Murders, ITV

Midsomer Murders stars Neil Dudgeon as DCI John Barnaby and Nick Hendrix as Detective Sergeant Jamie Winter

The remaining three episodes of Season 23 will be shown later this year, with DCI John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) unravelling another bizarre set of cases in what has to be the most dangerous rural area in the world based on shock death rates.

Only Murders in the Building, Disney+

The fourth outing of the comedy drama starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short, pictured right, will be released in August. Meryl Streep returns and there are guest roles for Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy and Zach Galifianakis, who play themselves playing our trio in a movie version of their hit crime-fighting podcast.

Ellis, Channel 5

Holby City star Sharon D. Clark leads this detective drama, playing DCI Ellis, who is sent in to various stations to help solve failing investigations.

Whitstable Pearl, UKTVPlay

The second series of this crime drama, set in Kent, will land as a box set on July 16 and again star Kerry Godliman as Pearl Nolan. The will-they-won’t-they? romance with DCI Mike McGuire (Howard Charles) continues, despite them both having new partners. Love is in the air.

Ludwig, BBC1

In this new comedy crime caper, David Mitchell is John “Ludwig” Taylor, who takes on the identity of his identical twin, James, when he mysteriously disappears. This isn’t easy as James is a DCI leading a big crime team in Cambridge and John quietly designs puzzles for a living. Also stars Anna Maxwell Martin as Lucy, James’s wife.

Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, Disney+

Jeff Pope is a master of the real-life crime drama and this mini-series, set in the aftermath of the 7/7 London bombings in 2005, is not to be missed.

Death in Paradise, BBC1

Don Gilet takes over from Ralph Little as tropical cop. DI Mervin Wilson debuts in a Christmas special.

The Jetty, BBC1

Jenna Coleman is rookie officer Ember Manning. She has to work out what links a fire in a holiday home, a secret love triangle and a cold case involving a missing person. It is expected to air in the autumn.

The Devil’s Hour, Prime Video

The chilling thriller starring Peter Capaldi and Jessica Raine returns and viewers will discover whether Gideon and Lucy are still living multiple versions of their own lives. It was complicated the first time around, but no one could say it was dull.

The Good Ship Murder, Channel 5

Shayne Ward and Catherine Tyldesley return in the cruise-ship crime caper, along with Claire Sweeney, as Beverley. Will Shayne and Cath’s characters, Kate and Jack, find love this autumn? Our guess is yes.

Women in Blue, AppleTV+

A Spanish-language series set in 1971, this follows four women as they sign up for Mexico’s first female police squad – only to discover it is just a publicity stunt. The story for the 10-part series is inspired by true events. Catch it from July 31.

DI Ray, ITV

Parminder Nagra is back as DI Rachita Ray in the second series of this crime drama. Ray fights to prevent a turf war from exploding on the streets of Birmingham.

Shetland, BBC1

Ashley Jensen is back on the beat in the windswept Shetland as

DI Ruth Calder, who is thrown in at the deep end when her partner in crime goes missing and sparks an investigation.

Showtrial, BBC1

This legal drama returns for a second run after receiving Bafta and Emmy nominations the first time around. There is a completely new cast that includes Adeel Akhtar, Nathalie Armin and Michael Socha and an explosive new murder investigation. The drama will focus on the trial of “Officer X”, a policeman accused of murdering a climate-change activist.
