Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables has no doubt that his quarterback Jackson Arnold can meet what is expected of him.
"I don't think [the expectations] are any higher than they were when he was at Denton-Guyer," Venables said at the SEC meetings. "I'm not trying to downplay it; this is a guy who was (Gatorade) National Player of the Year, so he has incredibly high standards and expectations…I don't feel like it’s any more than anything he's done."
"He knows," Venables said and as reported by 24/7. "He's the quarterback. The team, all good football teams, at a really high level, are going to be quarterback-driven. The quarterback can't play a'ight and then the team be really good. That's a given. That's the arena that Jackson knows he's stepped into, so, just playing within the system and being spectacular when he wants to, that always helps. But again, Jackson's going to focus on Jackson. He’s going to focus on improving, being the best version of himself, getting better.”
"He's a guy that knows that the tough moments are part of that position, as in any position, to get better. That's one of the ingredients."
It will be exciting to see what Arnold and OU will bring to the powerhouse SEC.
