Spurs of Three Teams Catching Interest from Trae Young
San Antonio Spurs general manager Brian Wright is no Sam Presti, but he's doing a superb job at stockpiling draft picks. On day one of the NBA draft, San Antonio traded its 2031 first-round pick and a 2030 pick swap for the rights to Rob Dillingham. If the Spurs want to swing for the fences, they have the best asset pool, aside from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Dating back to the 2024 NBA playoffs, Atlanta Hawks Trae Young was rumored to be the first star to play with Victor Wembanyama. Reportedly, "the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, and the Spurs are the three destinations that would be appealing to Young," according to Yahoo! Sports.

Of the three teams, the Spurs have more to offer. However, the Pelicans can make it interesting with a combination of picks and expiring contracts such as Brandon Ingram. On the outside looking in, though, the Lakers have a few picks and contracts to help match Young. Without assuming much, one would guess playing in Los Angeles trumps playing in the hot south.
However, this isn't free agency. The best offer typically wins trade discussions, not favorable climate conditions.
While Atlanta's front office would want the 2025 Hawks first-round pick in return, San Antonio could offer a plethora of picks to supplement Hawks general manager Landry Fields' appetite for it. Without Young on the Atlanta roster, it seems the 2025 Hawks' pick is a golden trade piece used on a better player down the line.
The Paul George domino has to fall in free agency; once his decision is made, the offseason will truly commence.
