PETALING JAYA: National diver Bertrand Rhodict Lises will not be alone at the Paris Olympics aquatics arena next month as Malaysia has been awarded an additional quota spot for the women’s 3m springboard individual event.
The national swimming federation Malaysia Swimming (MAS) confirmed the decision of the world aquatics federation and said an announcement would be made soon on who will be chosen for the event, Bernama reported.
National women divers Nur Dhabitah Sabri and Wendy Ng missed out on qualifying on merit for the games when they flopped at the world aquatics championships in Doha, Qatar, in February.
Wendy then announced her retirement in April, and is now reported to be busy completing her master’s degree in nutrition. She is also a part-time swimming and diving coach.
Bertrand was the sole Malaysian to qualify on merit in the diving event, based on his results at the world championships in Japan last year.
