Dumpling Emperor Din Tai Fung Has Now Conquered Downtown Disney

Two years after Din Tai Fung announced it would be opening an outpost at Downtown Disney, the doors to the new restaurant finally opened on June 24, albeit by reservation only and with limited hours. The full opening is set for Monday, July 1.

The new 7,500-square-foot restaurant was designed by Rockwell Group and inspired by the architecture of traditional Chinese pavilions. In addition to a spacious interior, a climate-controlled patio is also available for seating. As is standard in Din Tai Fung restaurants, diners can watch dumplings being made in an expo kitchen that opens into the dining room.

Expect the same Taiwanese and Shanghainese menu of noodles, dumplings, and more at the new location as others around Los Angeles, but with the addition of a new line of merch that dropped just in time for its opening. Cocktails are also available here, with expanded beer and wine offerings coming in July. Reservations for the Downtown Disney Din Tai Fung are available through Yelp.

Restaurants may be able to keep service fees after all

With the July 1 deadline for the junk fee ban to go into effect quickly approaching, the Los Angeles Times reports that a new emergency measure could exempt bars and restaurants from the law. If Senate Bill 478, the law prohibiting junk or hidden fees, goes into effect, restaurants that include service fees on their bills could be forced to remove them in favor of a traditional tipping model.

Tequila tasting at the Hotel Bel-Air

The luxurious Hotel Bel-Air is hosting a tequila tasting with Clase Azul in the hotel’s private dining room on July 10. Tickets run for $300 a person and come with small bites from the hotel, paired with pours from across Clase Azul’s offerings. Tickets are available through Seven Rooms.
