Soaking rains and severe weather target the Prairies ahead of long weekend
Rainfall warnings blanket parts of the prairies. We've got a storm that's going to soca, so heavy rain, abundant moisture, but also the risk of and thunderstorms too. That upper level spin. This is vorticity we're looking at. Very important when we consider severe weather and severe weather is in the cards today. Anywhere marked in yellow could see some thunderstorms. We've highlighted in Gray between Calgary Oil and Medicine Hat where we have good dynamics to see possibly funnel clouds that looks like tornadoes in the sky. They do not touch down. But southern Saskatchewan, that sliver in orange is where supercells could develop later this late afternoon and evening. And those could spin up and produce some tornadoes there. Now, if we don't see tornadoes, we're still getting some gusty winds, heavy downpours. And the heavy winds swirls around Prince Albert and Saskatoon overnight tonight through tomorrow, lingering showers for some and a chance of active weather once again. So the swath of rain is going to be heaviest anywhere marked in yellow and red. That's 50 to 70mm. So localized flooding is possible. This will be good for the fact that we have been running below average for precipitation a lot of areas in Western Canada. But just heads up on the chance of the flooding.
