Patriots veteran hopes to receive 'fair' contract extension before training camp

The Patriots were among the teams with the highest salary cap space entering the offseason, and while they brought in several new faces, they also decided to pay a lot of their own.
Among those receiving another contract from New England this offseason were wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, tight end Hunter Henry, offensive tackle Mike Onwenu, edge-rushers Josh Uche and Anfernee Jennings and safety Kyle Dugger.
However, veteran defensive lineman Davon Godchaux hopes the team isn't done as he is heading into the final year of his two-year, $20.8 million extension he signed in 2022.
"Hopefully, we can get something done that's fair to me and my team before camp starts!" Godchaux posted on platform X. "I love NE. I would love to retire here, but it has to make sense for us!"
Many may look at Godchaux's numbers and say he is undeserving of his current contract; nonetheless, it is a new deal.
Since signing his extension with the Patriots in 2022, he has registered just 1.5 sacks. But the 29-year-old believes there's more to his game than stats.
"What I do on the football field in the trenches most of time doesn't show on the stat sheet but turn on the film you will see it if 'U know' ball!" Godchaux added. "Would love to finish my career here in NE but it has to make sense to me and my team!"
Another aspect of Godchaux's game that shouldn't be overlooked is his availability. During his time in New England, he played in all 41 possible games and started 40.
Godchaux has never posted gaudy numbers, but his best season came in 2019 when he amassed a career-high 75 tackles and two sacks with the Dolphins.
So he hopes his film will do the talking as contract talks potentially ramp up.
