Australia’s inflation rate rose from 3.6 per cent to 4 per cent in May.
Markets are now predicting a 67 per cent chance of a rate hike in August.
“It is the centrepiece of this government’s approach – that is what this government is all about,” Mr Ayers told Sky News Australia.
“That’s why we’ve delivered two budget surpluses – the first in nearly 20 years.”
