Kate Garraway halts Good Morning Britain for urgent breaking news

Kate Garraway, the presenter of ITV's Good Morning Britain halted the show today to deliver some breaking news.

The star revealed that junior doctors in England have started a five-day strike. The action kicked off at 7am and is scheduled to wrap up at the same time on Tuesday 2 July.

This latest round of industrial action by British Medical Association (BMA) members, which is the eleventh since March 2023, comes as they call for a 35% pay rise over the next few years.

NHS England has issued a warning that their services could be heavily impacted and has urged the public to use them wisely. Kate, after getting the lowdown from GMB reporter Nitya Rajan, said: "And that is our breaking news story."

NHS chiefs have declared an alert over the potential "major disruption" with the upcoming strikes slated to impact "almost all routine care". On Wednesday 26 July, NHS England issued an announcement: "The NHS will face major disruption this week as junior doctors launch five days of industrial action, with services already under increasing pressure."

Matthew Taylor, head honcho at the NHS Confederation, has relayed his concerns: "Holding strikes in the middle of an election campaign when no political party is in a position to bring the dispute to a close is a bitter pill to swallow for staff who have to plug the gaps and patients who will have their appointments cancelled or delayed."

In a candid moment last week, presenter Kate had her co-host Adil Ray jump in to assist when she became noticeably "flustered" on air. After transitioning back to the studio, Kate seemed unexpectedly unprepared.

Attempting to read from the autocue and tucking her hair behind her ear, she clearly had a bit of a struggle. In a moment of on-air hilarity, Kate confessed in a high-pitched voice while gesturing with her hands, "I was just having a hair crisis! I'm going to be honest."

She couldn't help but giggle as Adil leapt from his chair to come to her rescue, exclaiming, "Let me just check this hair now," before smoothing down her locks. After a quick inspection, he reassured her as he sat back down, "Yeah, it looks like it normally does."

Kate then clarified the situation, saying, "People are saying my hair looks sweaty and it flustered me for a moment. But I'm back, with news and politics now."
