Rica Peralejo and family go camping, visit hanging coffins in Sagada

Rica Peralejo recently took a trip up north in Sagada with her husband Pastor Joseph Bonifacio and sons Philip and Manu — and we're living vicariously through her posts!

On Instagram, the former actress shared a clip of their camping experience in House of Sol, with the boys taking charge of putting up the tent.

"I love camping so much because of how it resets us, it makes us say no to our kids less, and it also builds their - OUR - character since making a home in the wild must be a team effort," Rica wrote in the caption.

The family also checked out The Shire of Sagada, which was a stone's throw away from their campsite. The aesthetic destination is inspired by The Shire, the home of Middle-earth's hobbits in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, down to its iconic circular walkways and windows.

Of course, Rica and her family also didn't miss the hanging coffins of Sagada. Per Rica, it was something that she had been meaning to tick off her list

"I am so happy we finally got to do it when we went last week! Not only because of the satisfying information you’ll gain as the guide tells you about the culture of Sagada (like a drop of blood from the dead symbolizes good luck and blessing) but also it is a good workout," she shared in her post.

The practice of hanging coffins on the cliff sides is one that is unique. According to cultural anthropologist Dr. Nestor Castro, the practice is done so animals and humans would not reach the coffins and dig through the human remains.

Rica added that she was proud of her five-year-old, Manu, who didn't need to be carried throughout their hike to see the hanging coffins.

"My secret coach really is my husband who knows how to set these kids’ minds. He really is a next gen whisperer, has a way with kids like no other. Also why I chose him," she said.
