Heavy rain and thunderstorms on deck across the Prairies Thursday
Heavy rain and thunderstorms on deck once again for the Prairies on Thursday. Now here's a look at the thunderstorm forecast. We do have a region of severe possible for the extreme southern region of Saskatchewan encompassing Regina, Cinnaboya, regions like Estevan for heavy rain, strong wind gusts, large hail and a tornado or two or are possible. We even have the chance of some afternoon supercells. Now this begins fairly early on Thursday, really intensifying by the afternoon hours into the evening as the system stalls almost directly over Saskatoon, bringing heavy widespread rain across the Yellowhead Highway. And then eventually making its way eastward, but not before bringing about the real chance for rotating storms, those big supercells as I mentioned. But then that becomes into Ontario by Friday. Now in terms of all of the prairies, I mentioned widespread rain, but it is going to be very heavy at times as this Alberta Clipper spawns off the Rockies and literally stalls over central prairies, eventually making its way out, but not before dropping a ton of atmospheric moisture across mostly southern prairies. But we are going to see upwards of 50mm for some even more across that Yellowhead Highway, in particular Saskatoon and Hinton.
