A turbo-charged puppet comedy – Hare Brain is a very different kind of toy story

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre is set to delight audiences with Hare Brain — a high-octane puppet comedy, which reimagines Aesop’s classic fable The Tortoise and the Hare.

Running from Saturday, June 29 to Saturday, July 13 at Ellie Eaton Theatre in Claremont Showground, this family-friendly show promises to be a highlight of the winter holidays.

Hare Brain transports audiences to a wacky world of toy invention, where the stakes are high and the competition is fierce.

Described as a mash-up of Beanie Babies meets The Apprentice and Barbie meets Shark Tank, this modern twist on the age-old fable features two main characters — Harry, a fast-paced marketing executive, and Toulouse, a meticulous cleaner with a flair for creativity.

The duo races against time to craft the next big toy sensation, aided by a magical think tank which animates everyday cleaning tools into lively characters.

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre artistic director Philip Mitchell, who first introduced Hare Brain when he joined the theatre company in 2002, is thrilled to bring this production back to the stage.

“Hare Brain ignites your imagination with its madcap twists while exploring the diverse ways people think,” he said.

“Whether you’re a tortoise or hare, your thinking style influences how you work, communicate and view the world.

“Just as Aesop in his time reflected on the dilemma, Hare Brain invites us to revisit the fast versus slow debate in today’s fast-paced, screen-addicted and social media-obsessed world.”

Packed with 50 minutes of high-voltage, slapstick fun, Hare Brain is sure to spark debates and laughter long after the curtain falls.

The show runs daily at 10am and 1pm.

Tickets are already selling fast, so don’t miss out on this rollercoaster romp through a world where mops, pails and vacuum cleaners come to life.

Founded in 1981, Spare Parts Puppet Theatre is Australia’s premier puppetry company, telling stories which connect audiences across generations.
