Melbourne woman shocked after filming neighbour's dangerous backyard act while she cooked lasagne in her kitchen

A Melbourne mother has been left in shock after she noticed '10-foot high' flames appearing over her backyard fence as was making her family dinner in their kitchen.

Vonnie M was filming herself making lasagne for a TikTok video when the flames could be seen appearing in frame out the window behind her.

She then stopped her cooking clip to venture into the backyard and investigate, where she discovered the neighbours had set fire to a couch they no longer wanted.

The mum pointed out the flames were very close to a wooden fence and just beneath a large tree.

'Look at this fire that's happening with the people that live behind us,' she said in the video.

'That massive tree is right there, I think that's a little bit dangerous.

'They seem to think they've got it all under control.

'I have the craziest neighbours.'

TikToker Vonnie M was making dinner for her family when she noticed huge flames flickering over her fence in her neighbour's yard. She later revealed they were burning an old couch

In a later video Vonnie M revealed they had learned the neighbours were torching the couch because no one would buy it on Facebook marketplace and council would not pick it up.

A spokesperson for Banyule City Council, the north-east Melbourne local government area where the incident happened, told Yahoo News they are looking into it.

While laws for backyard fires vary between councils, in this area permits can only be issued to burn green waste such as yard clippings.

Unauthorised backyard burn-offs can attract fines of up to $400.
