Tesla issued two recalls for its distinctive, stainless steel Cybertruck on Tuesday, making four recalls in the vehicle's short history. This round of recalls involves two separate issues. The first is a faulty motor for the windshield-wiper blades that may cause them to cease functioning; the other is loose trim pieces that may fall off the vehicle while it's being driven.

Both issues are detailed in NHTSA reports. For the windshield wipers, the NHTSA says that "excessive electrical current can cause the front windshield wiper motor controller to die." Meanwhile, the trunk bed trim may have "a loose applique" that can "detach from the vehicle, creating a road hazard for following motorists and increasing the risk of a crash."

The recall comes a couple of weeks after Tesla delayed shipments of Cybertrucks to customers. Customers were told that the windshield wiper had an issue and that dealerships were awaiting parts to fix it before releasing the vehicles to their new owners. It was one of many delays the truck faced due to similar issues.

Customers had been complaining about the windshield wiper blades not functioning before the recall. One user posted a video on X showing the wiper blades not working during a rainstorm. A member of the Cybertruck Owners Club forums also reported wiper blades not working within minutes of receiving delivery of a brand-new Cybertruck.

This is the fourth recall for the Tesla Cybertruck in its short history. The EV automaker recalled the truck in April for a faulty accelerator pedal issue and in late January due to an incorrect font size issue on warning lights. EV recalls occur more frequently than traditional ICE vehicles and we have a tutorial for EV owners on how to deal with that.

Which Tesla Cybertrucks are affected?

The windshield wiper issue affects 11,688 Cybertrucks manufactured between Nov 13, 2023, and June 6, 2024. The recall for the truck bed applique applies to 11,363 Cybertrucks made between Nov 13, 2023, and May 26, 2024.

Since the first Cybertrucks were delivered to customers on Nov. 30, 2023, nearly every Cybertruck model is involved in the recall. Owners should call their local Tesla dealerships if they have any questions.

What do Cybertruck owners need to do?

According to the NHTSA, Cybertruck owners will get a letter in the mail on or before Aug. 18, 2024, to let them know that the recall is happening. Tesla notified dealers of the recall as of June 21.

Owners are encouraged to bring their Cybertrucks in to the dealership, where technicians will replace the windshield motor and check to make sure the truck-bed applique is installed correctly. If not, the dealership will install a new one or repair the old one.

The repairs will be made free of charge.
