Glastonbury weather forecast: Festival to be dry says Met Office - but it still may rain
Revellers attending Glastonbury this weekend are set for some mixed weather, the Met Office has confirmed.
Festival-goers are set to descend on Pilton, Somerset, from Wednesday as the gates officially open for this year’s event, which will run until Sunday. Weather experts said it will be “largely dry and cloudy” but there could be a few light showers on the horizon. It may not be the summer heatwave some attending the Somerset festival will have hoped for, but light showers are unlikely to cause the kind of hellish mudbaths seen in years gone by, so some may be buoyed by the forecast.
Festivities will get under way across the 900-acre site before the music begins on the Pyramid Stage on Friday, with Dua Lipa, Coldplay and Sza set to headline the main stage. Ahead of the annual festival officially opening, the national forecaster provided a mostly positive outlook for the next five days, but added scattered showers could begin on Wednesday and last until the end of the weekend.

Met Office spokesperson Andrea Bishop said: “From Friday to Sunday it will remain largely dry and cloudy, with the potential for lighter showers across the weekend. Conditions will be slightly above average between 18C and 21C.” On Wednesday, temperatures between 25C and 27C are expected. This is the busiest day for arrivals on the Glastonbury site, with queues expected to line the roads surrounded Worthy Farm.
Campers could face “light rain” and a “cold front” on Thursday, with an average temperature of 20C. The average is set to drop again to 18C on Friday, but there are slightly warmer averages likely on Saturday and Sunday - between 20C and 21C. It comes after Nick Higginson, CEO of Phoenix Health and Safety, urged festival-goers to drink plenty of water in order to avoid dehydration during the event.
He said: “Being outdoors in the heat can be physically demanding, especially if you’re on your feet dancing. IIf you combine this with drinking alcohol, it can easily lead to exhaustion.” A host of top talent will be joining the headline acts, including Canadian superstar Shania Twain in the coveted legends slot, previously performed in by the likes of Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Tom Jones, Lionel Richie and many others. Shania is expected to play her massive hits including Man! I Feel Like A Woman!, You’re Still The One and That Don’t Impress Me Much. Acts such as LCD Soundsystem, Little Simz and PJ Harvey are also billed this year.
