Brooks: Five WRs with best shot at breaking Megatron's single-season receiving yards record in '24 'The Insiders'
Calvin Johnson back in 2012, nineteen, 164 receiving yards. That remains the high watermark for receiving yards in a single season. Tyreek Hill said last year he was going to break that. He's going to get all the way to 2000, almost got there. 1799 I believe was the number he got injured late in the season that derailed him. So we turn to Bucky Brooks. Mark Ross also with us, but Bucky brooksnfl.com scouts notebook if you want to check out the full story. You've got 5 receivers that could break Johnson's mark. Yeah, 5 receivers. And we talked about a Halo mark being able to get 2000 yards or something that we just can't even imagine if you think about back in the day, throwing it all over the yard. But in today's time, it certainly can happen. I believe they're a few ingredients that are necessary to be able to get it done. You have to be at #1 receiver, but you have to be able to do it in an offense that may not have another playmaker so you can get all of the targets. So the names that up at the top of the board are the usual suspects. You have Tyree Kill. You have Justin Jefferson, Amara St. Brown as a slide receiver, but the one that I really got a lot of pushback on is George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers. How can George Pickens get so many targets and so many yards? Well, look, this guy averaged 18.1 yards for Cats last year. Last year they didn't even really have a quarterback that can really throw him the football. Now you have Arthur Smith coming over, taking over an offense where you can have Russell Wilson being able to sling it all over the yard. I just think it's set up with the run game. One-on-one opportunities for George Pickens could lead him to be able to guy to can push for 2000 yards on the perimeter even though they may not throw it all over the yard. Bucky got tremendous respect for your work. But just like when I put my list out on NFL.com, there's always going to be complaints. I'm going to be a fan now and complain and say where's CD Lamb? Where's CD Lamb on the list? Bucky? We talked about the situations that are they're in. Some of those guys on your list, they're got shaky quarterback situations and do have to have to share the rock. Well, CD Lamb was second behind Tyreeka Hill last year. He had 1749 yards and he's got Dak coming back. He's got that synergy with Dak. He's going to be newly paid, so he's going to be extra motivated to prove that contract that he got. And you talk about a situation and an offense that highlights his skills. CD Lamb since two 2020 has the most yards in the slot and he led the league in yards after catch last year. So when you've got a guy that you know, put him in a slot non-stop, just get him the rock he's going to make yards. He's going to break the record easily this year. He's the guy Bucky. Not anybody there on that list. Wow, are you rapping? Did you just start a rap there? Is that what happened there? That's not my if you're like Mark Ross and you like to poke holes and things, go check out Bucky's article on NFL.com back slash scouts notebook to see his five guys and his reasoning for those five guys.
