‘See you on the other side.’ These are the haunting final words of a young 20-year-old girl who flew to Turkey with her boyfriend for weight-loss surgery and never returned.
Morgan Ribeiro, from England, tragically died after a botched gastric sleeve operation in Turkey this month – after her sister begged her not to go.

During the procedure on January 5, her small intestine was cut but doctors in Turkey gave her the all-clear to fly home and she fell dangerously ill on the flight back to London.

The plane had to make an emergency landing in Serbia, where Morgan was rushed to hospital in Belgrade. There, she underwent an emergency operation to remove 10cm of her infected small intestine
Sadly, despite doctor’s best efforts, Morgan went into septic shock, her organs began to fail and she passed away in hospital on January 13.
Morgan had booked the operation after years of being bullied for her weight and posted a tragic final TikTok just days before the dangerous operation, saying: ‘My final post before [weight loss surgery]. See you on the other side’ – along with the ‘fingers crossed’ emoji.

Her boyfriend Jamie Brewster, 19, who had accompanied her on the trip to Turkey, said he was ‘devastated’ at her passing, calling her ‘my beautiful angel’.
He revealed that she had ‘struggled with her weight’ her whole life and had booked the €2,900 gastric sleeve operation because she wanted to lose weight and ‘fit in’.

In a tribute to Morgan on a fundraising page for her funeral costs, Jamie wrote: ‘My beautiful princess has passed away. She had been struggling with her weight all her life. She wanted to fit in. But in actual fact she was the most beautiful woman and she was my other half.
‘Me, my family and her family are truly devastated. We must stay strong for her and give her the best possible send off that we can. Any donations will go straight to giving her that perfect send off.
‘We will miss you Morgan you was the most beautiful person in the world and you was taken way too soon. Rest in peace my beautiful angel.’
After her death, Morgan’s ‘devastated’ boyfriend called her ‘my beautiful angel’.
Morgan’s mother, Erin, said her family didn’t know about her planned operation until just days before she was due to fly out and her sister Kayleigh had begged her not to go, the Independent reports.
Erin said she was concerned by the risks of the surgery and is now speaking out as she doesn’t want her daughter’s life to be in vain.
‘Growing up she was bullied a lot, she’s always battled with her weight and been a bigger girl and she had a really rough time with it,’ she said. ‘I told her she was beautiful inside and out, she really was a beautiful girl.
‘By the time I found out it was too late, she was already on the plane. I had that sinking feeling because I’d heard horror stories about Turkey. I never ever want this to happen to another daughter. I don’t want her life to be in vain.’
