Q I’m not overweight but have the family double chin, which I loathe. I’ve tried fat-dissolving injections and fat freezing, but neither made a real difference. What do you recommend?
A Unfortunately, for any evidence-based non-surgical treatment, there are much cheaper alternatives that sound identical, but aren’t backed up by the same data.
‘There are cryolipolysis (fat- freezing) machines that are not clinically proven like leading brand CoolSculpting [from about £400],’ says aesthetic physician Dr Pamela Benito.
‘And aside from licensed and proven fat-dissolving jabs, Aqualyx [from £495 per session at drpamelabenito.com] and Belkyra, there are plenty of impostors (often heavily marketed on TikTok) that contain little or none of those formulas’ proven ingredients.’

So my advice would be to try again, but make sure you avoid ‘alternative’ brands.
Also, chat to your doctor about your expectations. while these treatments have visible results, you’re looking at 25 to 30 per cent fat loss at most, not a total and dramatic transformation.
