Tree takes out power lines in Gold Coast, cuts power for thousands of homes
Fallen power lines have cut power for thousands of residents on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
Energy distributor Energex reported the power outage is affecting more than 1300 customers in the suburbs of Ashmore and Benowa on Monday afternoon.
A spokesman from Energex told NewsWire they had received a call-out from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services about power lines falling onto a car.
QFES confirmed to NewsWire the power lines fell at Benowa after receiving a call about 2.20pm Monday.

On arrival, the crew found a tree had taken out the power lines and were tasked by police to ensure the area remains safe.
Energex crews are currently on the way to the scene, but the network protection system kicked in and cut the power, the spokesman said.
“Assume the power lines are still live,” he warned.
“We’re not sure when the power will be back.”
The affected streets include: Allchurch Ave, Ashmore Rd, Benowa Rd, Boree St, Carrara St, Currumburra Rd, Hudson Ct, Ivor Ct, Jarrah Pl, Lambros Dr, Marbella Dr, Marjorie Cres, Maryanne St, Mediterranean Dr, Milparinka Tce, Naranja Cres, Penamber Ct, Penelope Ct, Ross St, South Shields Dr, St Kevins Ave, Tambourah Dr, Tanya Ct, Tristan Ct and Willamulka Ave.
Energex is expected to provide an update at 5pm, but it is not yet known when the power will return.
