Wexford tenants in limbo after applying for the Tenant in Situ scheme
Tenants are facing even more difficulties finding accommodation as a result of red tape.
During last week’s meeting of Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal meeting Cllr Mary Farrell said she was aware of a case where local residents applied for the Tenant in Situ scheme but are currently stuck between finding new accommodation or losing the opportunity to stay in their current home.
The Tenant in Situ scheme allows the Housing Agency to buy rental properties from private landlords who are selling, so the Housing Agency can continue to rent these properties to the tenants who are living there.
Cllr Farrell asked Senior Staff Officer, Paula Shortall if the tenants still had to live in the home to apply for the Tenant in Situ scheme.
“The situation is that it’s not certain whether the landlord will sell to the Council, he’s dithering a bit,” said Cllr Farrell.
Ms Shortall responded that any application for the Tenant in Situ scheme would become void if the tenants left the house.
