Another familiar face is coming to the world of Wednesday.
Per Variety, Westworld star Thandiwe Newton will join season 2 of Netflix’s hit Addams Family series, though her character hasn’t officially been named yet. This marks the latest addition to Wednesday’s cast alongside Steve Buscemi, whose character will reportedly come into Wednesday Addams’ life as Nevermore Academy’s replacement principal.

Though it initially earned mixed-to-positive reviews upon release, Wednesday quickly grew into a massive ratings juggernaut for Netflix, beating out Stranger Things season 4 to become the streaming platform’s most-viewed English-language series. Production on season 2 is expected to begin this month, albeit with filming relocating from Romania to Ireland due to executive producer Steve Stark’s history shooting Vikings there. Additionally, 2023’s dual SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes resulted in Wednesday season 2 and Stranger Things season 5’s releases being pushed back to next year, though another report suggests Netflix wants to expand its Addams Family universe with a spinoff focused on Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen), who cameoed in season 1’s penultimate episode.
Jenna Ortega Is Excited For the Second Season
Despite the extended release window, Jenna Ortega remains excited about her involvement in Wednesday season 2 as both lead actor and producer. In addition to embracing horror over season 1’s love triangle drama, Ortega gave season 2’s early scripts her approval and loved “seeing all of the new characters that are coming in. We’re definitely expanding on the supernatural world. Our show had all sorts of werewolves and vampires and da-ta-da. And I think we expand on that a little bit.” Plot details remain a mystery but, when asked about season 2, Ortega’s co-star Emma Myers said she wanted Wednesday’s werewolf friend/roommate Enid to “be more confident in herself” on their next adventures, adding, “She’s finally grown into her wolf abilities, and I would like to see her use that instead of being scared and upset by it. I would love to see her be an instigator in things instead of just being dragged along with it.”
