New weather maps show Britain will be hit by a second African plume after a three-day cold plunge.

WXCharts has predicted hot weather will return next weekend, April 19 and 20, bringing with it above-average temperatures.

Temperatures will be highest in the east of England where some areas will bask in a balmy 15C. Meanwhile, some areas in the southeast (Ipswich, London, Southampton) will only see around 13-14C.

The midlands (Birmingham, Norwich) and the southwest (Bath, Plymouth) will be between 11C and 15C. Wales and Northern Ireland will sit at 14C.

South Scotland (Edinburgh, Dumfries) and the north of England (Manchester, Carlisle, Newcastle) will be between 11C and 13C.

It will be coldest in north Scotland (Wick, Inverness) where it will be 6C and central Scotland (Aberdeen, Dundee, Fort William) will be 7-10C.

The Met Office has said some showers or longer spells of rain are likely during the period, with these heaviest across the north and northwest.

Conversely, many parts of the south and southeast are likely to remain mainly dry.

Today:

Rather cloudy with patchy rain in the north, though brighter across the far northeast of Scotland. England and Wales mostly dry with warm sunshine, but cloudier in the far west. Feeling very warm in the sunshine, especially in the east.

Tonight:

Further rain and drizzle in the northwest of the UK where winds pick up with some coastal gales. Low cloud in the west which feeds inland. Clearer in the east.

Saturday:

Patchy low cloud should clear quickly in the south. A weak band of rain moves southeastwards, clearing by dusk. Showers in the northwest, locally heavy with thunder. Turning cooler.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Generally bright, breezy and cooler on Sunday. Showers in the northwest, spreading to all parts on Monday. A notably cooler feel as temperatures drop to average for April.
