westmeath driver tests positive for cocaine with child in front seat of car

The car had been reported to Gardaí for dangerous driving

Gardaí in Westmeath have revealed that they pulled over a car after it matched the description of a vehicle reported as driving dangerously, only to discover a disturbing detail in the front seat.

The driver, a woman, was arrested at the scene after Gardaí found that the car was being driven without the proper legal documentation -but that is not all.

Posting to X (formerly Twitter), the account of An Garda Síochána wrote: “Sit back, this will take you a minute.

“Westmeath Gardaí took a call about a person’s dangerous driving. This car fit the description and was stopped. No insurance. No NCT. No licence. No tax.”

After Gardaí tested the woman for cocaine, the results were returned positive. To make the situation even more concerning, a child was found in the front passenger seat.

Gardaí continued: “The car was examined and found to be dangerously defective due to worn tyres, modifications and mechanical faults. The car has been seized and the driver arrested.

“Whatever about your own safety, at least spare a thought for others using the same roads.”

Users were shocked by what they were reading and rushed to share their feelings. One wrote: “Terrifying. Glad you caught her.” Another said: “Beggars belief, said before its madness to think how many on our roads uninsured etc”, while a third added: “A stark reminder that it doesn’t matter how good of a driver you are. What matters to you is how good all the other drivers are.”
