For decades, we’ve loved the soft, tender crust of Pop-Tarts pastries. On occasion, we’ll make it slightly flakier with a quick toast, or, for a little extra decadence, add a simple secret ingredient on top. But, for the most part, the pale-baked, melt-in-your-mouth crust is what has made the pastries so iconic. That is, until now.

In a bold move, Pop-Tarts is saying goodbye to a soft, flakey pastry crust and taking its flavors to the crunchy side for a whole new era of toaster pastries. Put your salty bites aside—Pop-Tarts is making its way to the snack aisle.

New Pop-Tarts Crunchy Poppers

Today, Pop-Tarts is launching its very first crunchy snack, aptly named, Crunchy Poppers. They’re basically Pop-Tarts in a light, pop-in-your-mouth format, and taste unlike any snack—or toaster pastry—you’ve had before.

“In a snacking sea of salty choices, Pop-Tarts Crunchy Poppers are the brand’s first-ever sweet and crunchy snack,” the brand said in a press release. “Pop-Tarts is always looking to turn convention on its head, and now the brand is breaking into the afternoon snacking craze and empowering snackers to embrace the crunch,” the brand shared.

If you’re thinking, wait a second, these look familiar, you’re probably thinking of Pop-Tarts Bites, which came out in new flavors earlier this year. But, the difference is all in the texture. The Bites are basically mini versions of the original pastries with the same soft, tender, and traditional crust.

Instead, these sweet, snackable treats feature a crisp, crunchy shell that snaps with every bite. They come in two fan-favorite Pop-Tart flavors: Frosted Strawberry, which has a fruity berry center, and Frosted Brownie, which is stuffed with a rich, chocolatey filling. And, in typical Pop-Tarts fashion, they’re finished off with frosting and sprinkles.

These teeny treats have everything we love in a snack food: crunch, convenience, and flavor. Plus, they’re mess-free, packed in individual pouches, making them the perfect grab-and-go snack to “satisfy your sweet and crunchy cravings, anytime and anywhere,” said the brand.

The new crunchy snack lineup will begin rolling out to retailers nationwide in April for a suggested retail price of $3.99 per five-count box and $6.59 per 10-count box. We don’t know about you, but we think the move from soft to crunchy Pop-Tarts crusts will be an easy trend to get behind.
