Vladimir Putin breaks silence over fears Russia could launch huge attack on Europe

Vladimir Putin has broken his silence over increasing fears from the West that Russia could invade Europe and carry out huge attacks on key NATO member states.

Tensions between Russia and NATO are continuing to soar to alarming levels over Moscow’s staunch opposition to the West helping to fund and supply Ukraine with destructive weapons in the ongoing war.

Putin and his Russian allies have made several veiled threats against NATO over recent months, with increasing fears he could be tipped over the edge by launching an attack on nearby Baltic states.

The Russian president has now spoken out, dismissing claims his country could carry out attacks on NATO states.

During a speech to Russian air force pilots on Wednesday night, Putin insisted there are “no aggressive intentions” towards countries such as Poland or the Baltic states.

He said: “The idea that we will attack some other country – Poland, the Baltic States, and the Czechs are also being scared – is complete nonsense. It’s just drivel.”

But in contrast, the Russian Foreign Ministry has claimed NATO’s activity in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea is linked to preparations for a potential conflict with Russia.

The ministry, which has extremely close ties to Putin, also alleged that “strengthening coalition potentials” are taking place in Poland and surrounding Baltic countries.

The Russian Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti: “The expansion of the Romanian air base is further proof that the North Atlantic bloc continues the unrestrained militarization of Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region.”

The agency also believes the actions of the NATO defence alliance is ramping up military tensions along the perimeter of Russia’s borders.

Earlier this month, it was revealed Romania has started building what is set to become NATO’s most extensive military base in Europe, signaling a concerted effort to bolster its presence in the Black Sea region in response to heightened Russian activities.

The £2billion project aims to expand the Romanian Air Force 57th Air Base Mihail Koglniceanu, which is located near the Black Sea port city of Constana.

The new facility will span nearly 20 miles in perimeter, cover approximately 11 square miles, and accommodate around 10,000 NATO personnel alongside their families.
