Vin Diesel’s ‘Riddick: Furya’ to Begin Production in August

Vin Diesel will suit up again as Richard B. Reddick this summer. The “Fast and Furious” star is set to begin production on “Riddick: Furya,” the fourth installment of the “Riddick” franchise, on Aug. 26.

The film, which follows 2000’s “Pitch Black,” 2004’s “The Chronicles of Riddick” and 2013’s “Riddick,” will shoot in Germany, Spain and the U.K.

In “Riddick: Furya,” Riddick finally returns to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there, he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster – and some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.

The project reunites Diesel with writer and director David Twohy (“The Fugitive”). Diesel will produce under his One Race Films banner alongside Samantha Vincent. Thorsten Schumacher for Rocket Science and Lars Sylvest for Thank You Studios will also produce alongside Joe Neurauter.

Twohy, who wrote and directed the previous three “Riddick” films, just completed writing the financial thriller “Big Dogs,” to be directed by Ridley Scott.

Meanwhile, Diesel has a hefty slate of action projects slated in his future, including the “Fast and Furious” finale, Mattel’s “Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots” film and Universal’s “Kojak.” Last month, the actor shared on Instagram that all his upcoming films were “fighting for position” to begin shooting with him, but now it seems “Riddick” has won the race to film first.

He’s been teasing “Riddick: Furya” on social media in recent weeks, sharing photos from the previous films and gym selfies as he trains to once again embody the anti-hero.

Rocket Science represented the international sales rights and has completed worldwide cornerstone pre-sales to the U.K. (yet to be announced), France (Metropolitan), Germany (Leonine), Spain and Latin America (Sun), Benelux (The Searchers), Poland (Kinoswiat), Canada (Elevation), Scandinavia (Scanbox), Portugal (Lusomundo), Switzerland (Ascot Elite), South Africa (Empire), Greece (Femeway), Middle East (Front Row), CIS and Baltic States (Volga), Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Czech/Slovak, Republic Former Yugoslavia (ProRom) and Thailand (Sahamongkhol). CAA Media Finance is representing the North American rights.

Diesel is represented by CAA and Linden Entertainment. Twohy is represented John Burnham of Atlas Artists.
