SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – First flakes of February falling tonight into the start of Wednesday followed by another round of more significant snow late in the week. Find out how much snow may fall below.
Turning colder, more seasonable rest of week
Temperatures fall a bit below average for the first time since late January, or over 3 weeks ago, on Wednesday with highs struggling to reach 30. Factor winds gusting over 20 mph at times on Wednesday, and it will feel more like the teens to near 20 much of the day.
Yes, it’s going to feel more like February around here for at least the next 5 to 7 days.
First flakes of February fall tonight
The first half of February has been snow free and unseasonably mild too, more representative of later March and April, but Old Man Winter is going to get up off the mat over the coming days.
The Nor’easter did not directly impact CNY, but the aftermath is.
A cold front gets pulled through on the backside of the nor’easter leading to chillier air later tonight into Wednesday/Valentine’s Day. The cold front produces scattered snow showers and a brief squall or two this evening.
Behind the cold front late tonight into the start of Wednesday the colder air generates some lake effect snow showers which will taper Wednesday morning/midday.
Roads could get somewhat slick/sloppy in spots tonight into the start of Wednesday as readings drop below freezing tonight.
How much falls?
A coating to 2 inches is expected for most with up to 3 or 4 inches possible in spots across the hills south of Syracuse and over the Tug Hill.
Cold, but quiet for dinner on Valentine’s Day
Have dinner plans with your honey for the holiday? If so, yes, it’s going to be cold, but at least it’s looking nice and tranquil! So, bundle up and snuggle the one you love with temperatures in the 20s under a partly cloudy sky during the evening.
More significant snow possible…
There’s at least a couple of other chances of more significant snow late Thursday afternoon into Friday and again over the weekend as a couple of stronger clippers zip through followed by lake snow.
