The current Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma has come a long way and now is set to represent the country for the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup reflecting on his rise to the top of the ladder, former Indian all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh recalled some of his first impressions of Rohit as a youngster.

During the inaugural edition, Yuvraj played a crucial role in securing the only T20 World Cup title which was won under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Along with this, a young Rohit Sharma was also making his name batting in the middle of the order and Yuvraj had a funny take on his first impressions of the Mumbai-batter.

Coincidentally, Yuvraj’s final season as an active player came under Rohit’s leadership with the Mumbai Indians and won the title. Now he has a new role as the ambassador of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Speaking on his relationship with Rohit, Yuvraj credited the Indian skipper for not letting all the success change him and the all-rounder considers him as one of his closest friends from the sport.

“The more success he’s had, he has never changed as a person. That’s the beauty of Rohit Sharma. Fun-loving, always having fun with the guys, A great leader in the park and one of my closest friends from cricket,” said Yuvraj Singh.

Speaking on India’s upcoming campaign at the T20 World Cup, Yuvraj said that he wanted Rohit to lift the World Cup. The Indian skipper came really close in ODI World Cup hosted in India in 2023 where they lost the finals and the legendary all-rounder believes that Rohit is deserving of a medal.

“I want to see Rohit Sharma with a World Cup trophy and a World Cup medal. He deserves it,” he concluded.
