American muscle cars have always proved that you don’t need tons of money to have tons of power. The Camaro is a testament to this idea and offers an incredible powertrain for a bargain of a price. Chevrolet’s driver-centric 2+2 coupe is the perfect car for those looking for some oomph on a budget.

The difference between the most affordable and the most expensive Chevrolet Camaro is a whopping $41,200. The difference in equipment between these two trim levels is also massive though and more than justifies the price.

You’ll be served well by the base Camaro and it’s an excellent starting point for someone just looking to get into muscle cars. Its base equipment may not be the most exciting, but you can kit the Camaro out if you’re willing to stretch your budget slightly. The 1LT Camaro comes with 18-inch wheels and all-season blackwall tires, standard bucket seats, and an incredible V-6 engine.

Best Value For Money Trim

While every trim of the Camaro is well worth the money, if you’re looking for the version with the most features for the best price, then the 1SS is the way to go. Not only do you get access to the improved V-8 engine but you also get 20-inch wheels, Recaro bucket seats, and a bevy of other performance-enhancing parts.

The 1LE Performance Package is also well worth the additional money, adding performance features like magnetic ride control, uniquely tuned suspension, improved aerodynamics, and electronic limited-slip differential. It also adds dual exhaust mode and improved Brembo brakes.

Chevrolet’s 2024 Camaro Comes Standard With A 335 Horsepower V-6

The most impressive part about the Camaro by far is its powerful naturally aspirated V-6 engine. Where many other competitors have downsized to inline four-cylinders on their base models, buying the cheapest Camaro will still net you a V-shaped engine.

The V-6 powertrain in the Camaro is super underrated and has a ton of power and torque considering how cheap and accessible it is. While Chevrolet used to offer an inline-four, the six-pot has become the standard. The V-6 helps rocket the Camaro along, giving even the most bare-bones variants tons of acceleration and speed.

What is becoming an increasing rarity as we move forward is seeing cars with a manual transmission. Not only does the Camaro feature a manual, but it’s the standard option, with you having to fork out a little more if you want the 10-speed automatic with paddle shifters. This proves that the Camaro really is a car for enthusiasts.

If you’re buying a muscle car, even a V-6 one, you should know that your fuel bill is not going to be particularly cheap. That being said, the Camaro doesn’t perform too badly, especially once you get it on the highway. If you’re someone who travels within a city, however, know that you’re probably going to have to fill up fairly often.

Gone are the days when the manual transmission was the more efficient choice. The automatic variant of the 2024 Camaro achieves better fuel economy. It may not be by tons, but the two extra miles per gallon add up, and if you’re on a budget, you may want to consider sacrificing the manual for the additional efficiency.

It May Be Cheaper Than Rivals, But Its Interior Is No Less Attractive

The interior has been a particular point of issue on previous generation Camaros. However, Chevrolet has made all the necessary improvements to make the Camaro an excellent car to live with day-to-day. However, its limited space may put some people off.

The Camaro is a 2+2 coupe with two fairly spacious front seats where you and your passenger will feel pretty comfortable. On the flip side, those relegated to the back seats may wish that you had opted for a sports sedan instead of a coupe. However, if you’re not too worried about carrying additional passengers, then this isn’t the biggest concern.

In terms of cargo space, the Camaro is the smallest compared to all of its rivals. It doesn’t offer too much room in the rear for suitcases or any kind of luggage. On top of this, the opening for the trunk is ridiculously small, as if Chevrolet is begging you to not even attempt putting anything too large in there to begin with.

Key Features

Where the Camaro does shine is its equipment. It offers a ton of features for its fairly low price tag. The standard seven-inch infotainment system is simple and easy to use, as is just about everything in this affordable coupe. It can be swapped out for an eight-inch display which fills out the space better. A heads-up display is also an available option, something the Camaro’s rivals don’t offer.

In terms of performance equipment, Chevrolet kits the Camaro out with a ton of features. A drive-mode selector, a performance data recorder, and launch control are all additional extras that can help you get the most out of your Camaro.

For $20 More, You Could Go With The Ford Mustang Instead

The Camaro has a ton of competition in the realm of affordable sports cars. The closest to it is the Ford Mustang. The Mustang’s entry-level model is priced extremely similarly to the Camaro and offers similar levels of performance. So which one is the best affordable coupe with more than 300 horsepower is really up for the consumer to decide.

Performance

Engine

2.3-Liter Turbocharged Inline-Four

Transmission

10-Speed Automatic

Instead of an old-school V-6, Ford has modernized their Mustang with a turbocharged inline-four. However, it still manages to produce a respectable amount of horsepower and torque and is actually faster off the line than the Camaro.

All in all, the Ford is the quicker muscle car and the only real downside that we can find is that you have to opt for the V-8 in order to get access to the six-speed manual. The Ecoboost Mustangs are stuck with the 10-speed automatic.

The Better Choice Is Up To The Consumer

The Camaro is technically the cheaper car. However, the Ford Mustang’s starting MSRP is only $20 more than that of the Camaro. On top of this, the Mustang offers better performance, more interior space, and a more refined cabin overall. In our eyes, the Mustang is definitely the better value for money.

This doesn’t by any means eliminate the Camaro from the running. If you’re looking for a more traditional experience, then the V-6 and the manual transmission are something that you’re going to value pretty highly. On top of this, the 2024 Camaro is the last of its generation, whereas the Mustang is brand new. Who knows what improvements Chevrolet is going to bring to the table when they bring the nameplate back new and improved.
